CBN vows to frustrate maize importation

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Godwin Emefiele has vowed that the bank will frustrate any move to import maize into the country.
Emefiele disclosed this yesterday while speaking at the launching of 2020/2021 dry season farming in Katsina.
He added that the country must strive to produce what it consume in order to generate wealth and provide employment.
The Governor said the government has at least 100,000metric tonnes of Maize in its reserve which he disclosed will help to moderate price.
He stressed ” we have enough Maize in our strategic reserve,”.
Emefiele urged youth to take advantage of the many government initiatives that promote agriculture and entreprenuel in generate wealth and creating employment.
The governor praised the efforts of Maize Association of Nigeria, (MAAN)in promoting the federal government anchor borrower programme on Maize production.
In his remarks, President Muhammadu Buhari said with the government commitment funding in agriculture in the last six years was never a problem.
The president represented by Kebbi state governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu noted that with the many agricultural initiatives Nigeria has become one of the largest producer of Maize globally.
Also speaking, governor Aminu Bello Masari commended the efforts of president Buhari administration in reviving the country’s agricultural sector.
