Bwari: Adesola bemoans encroachment around Dam reserve areas

The FCT Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola, expressed dismay and shock over the purported massive encroachment around the reserve areas of Lower Usuma Dam Treatment Plant, in Bwari Area Council of the Territory.

Adesola, however disclosed that FCT Administration all necessary precautionary measures to avert any ugly situation around the Dam.

A statement signed by Press Secretary to the FCT Permanent Secretary, Tony Odey, and made available to PeoplesDaily yesterday said Adesola warned that in the event of any failure, the volume of water from the Dam can submerge the entire Bwari.

It added that Adesola asserted this point while on an inspection tour of the Dam, with a view to ascertaining areas the Administration needs to improve upon, so as to ensure that FCT residents continue to enjoy steady supply of potable water.

Describing as totally unacceptable and reprehensible, the spate of destruction of government critical facilities, the Permanent Secretary directed the Ag. General Manager of Water Board, Mrs. Joy Okoro to work with the Security Department to ensure men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) attached to the Board are redeployed to protect all facilities owned by the Board, in line with the mandate of the Corps.

He noted that the construction of the water treatment plant shows the administration’s huge investment in the advancement of the welfare of her citizens, adding that the FCT Administration would continue to prioritize the maintenance of the Dam for optimum service delivery.

The statement added that present at the inspection tour with the Permanent Secretary include: Ag. Executive Secretary of FCDA, Hajia Zahliatu Ahmed, Ag. General Manager of FCT Water Board, Mrs. Joy Okoro, Directors and other management staff of FCTA and FCDA.
