Kebbi State Governor Senator Atiku Bagudu Abubakar has commended the former President, Goodluck Jonathan for establishing some Federal Universities during his tenure.
Bagudu who disclosed this yesterday while receiving the members of the Federal Government Visitation Panel to the Federal University Birnin Kebbi who paid him courtesy visit in Government House, said that the establishment of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi has reduced the level of unemployment in the State and eased the education for the people.
He further expressed support to the Federal University Birnin Kebbi in its quest for academic excellence.
He gave an assurance that his administration would strive to facilitate the provision of additional facilities to the institution and welcomed the expansion of College of Medical Sciences.
Bagudu advised the University to offer admission to students from West African Countries of Benin and Niger Republics to promote unity and purpose as well as enhance understanding among the sister African nations.
“I want the University to collaborate with other famous universities to introduce courses for the benefit of students to have wider understanding of human and environmental problems” he said.
“I equally want the Council Members of the University and those on the visitation panel to influence renaming the institution by the federal government to Sheikh Abdullahi Fodio in recognition of his scholarly works for the benefit of mankind.”
He then urged the governing council and visitation panel to ensure the institution ranked among the best in the country.
Speaking, The Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Bello Bala Shehu told the Governor that a Presidential Team was in the state to assessing the school since its establishment.
In his remark, the Chairman and Team Leader of the visitation panel Professor Segun Oyenusi along with Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Funmi Togonu Bickersteth said they were in Kebbi State to ascertaining areas of operation and assistance to the university and the way forward, describing the institution as one of the most excellent tertiary institutions in the country in terms of structure and academic performance.
Professor Segun commended Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for his support to the University on projects implementation in the faculty of environment power supply, college of medical sciences, teaching hospital, provision of security to the school and support in research activities.
The team leader requested the Governor to allocate additional land to the university for expansion purposes.
