Katsina state Government is set to revive special court that will recover all outstanding funds from tax defaulters in the state.
The Executive chairman of the state’s Board of Internal Revenue, Alhaji Mustapha Muhammad Surajo made the assertion while speaking to the media in kaduna yesterday.
He said the measure was taken after several letters sent to defaulters to pay monies they owed.
Surajo added that except for a few that honoured the letters, several of the defaulters were yet to settle their taxes, which had accumulated over months and years.
He said when the court commences operation, defaulting individuals and organisations would appear before it, warning that those who fail to do so would be prosecuted.
He lamented failure by some wealthy individuals and organisations to pay taxes into the coffers of the state government.
He said government could not provide needed social amenities if people shy away from paying their taxes as at when due.
The Chairman disclosed that in a bid to improve internal revenue generation in the State, the Board has embarked on enumeration of businesses through effective data collection.
The chairman also stressed that the Revenue Board has already commenced in earnest auditing of businesses, Ministries, Department and Agencies, all in an effort to ensure improved revenue generation and prudent management of public resources.
