It was a day to remember for Nigeria’s Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has he played a pivotal role in Kaizer Chiefs’ of South Africa first ever qualification for the final of CAF champions League.
The Amakhosi held a slim 0-1 away over former champion Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in a game in which Nigeria international was on parade for the entire duration after South Africa’s Bvuma was absent after being certified unfit for the encounter due to injury.
The former Chippa United goalkeeper did well to truncate all the attacking threat of Wydad atrackers.
Akpeyi was called into action earlier in the game with double attacking threat from Wahid El Karti and Ounajem.
Tanzanian winger Simon Msuva had a shot blocked, the rebound falling to striker Ayoub El Kaabi, who struck powerfully at Akpeyi from a prime position.
Jabiane’s dipping strike was awkwardly palmed for a corner by Akpeyi before the break.
Kaizer Chiefs did enough to secure a goalless draw and 1-0 aggregate to progress to the final of the competition.
The South African side has never qualify for group stages of the competition in the past as they’ve always crashed at the preliminary stages.
They will know their final opponent later this evening when defending champion Al Ahly of Egypt play host to former champion Espearance of Tunisia.
