Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i, yesterday launched the state’s Conflict Early Warning Early Response System, (CEWERS) put in place by Kaduna State Peace Commission, (KAPECOM).
Speaking at the event, El Rufai said CEWERS’ mechanism is critical to prevention and management of crisis and enduring community peace initiatives.
The governor expressed dismay that the state has a legacy of conflicts, adding that Kaduna and Plateau states are centre of targets for people who wants to promote ethno-religious conflicts.
El-Rufa’i who commended KAPECOM under the leadership of Bishop Idowu Fearon, said the CEWERS has potentials to draw the attention of responders and emergency service providers to the possibility of breakdown of peace, law and order in their environments in real time.
Earlier, the Executive Vice Chairman of KAPECOM, Barr
Priscilla Ankut, said that the CEWERS came about from the need to reinvigorate the chain of events from when threats are detected, reported and the response time.
