The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has presented five trucks of food items to victims of the recent market fire disaster in Katsina State.
The North West Zonal Coordinator of the agency, Mr Abbani Imam, shortly before handing over the food items to the victims, said that the gesture was to cushion the hardship being experienced by the victims.
Imam however called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items given them to improve their lot, urging them to take necessary measures towards preventing future reoccurrence of the incident.
In his remarks, the Katsina State Commissioner for Sports and Social Development, Alhaji Sani Danlami, commended the Federal Government for the gesture, as it would go a long in reducing the sufferings of the victims.
Danlami, who is also the State Committee Chairman for Internally Displaced persons (IDPs), said that Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina was appreciative of the assistance.
Responding, the Chairman of the Katsina Central Market, Abbas Labaran assured of even distribution of the items to affected victims of the incident.
Labaran however reminded the state government not to renege on its earlier pledge to assist the affected traders with 40 percent of their loss, as over N1 billion was lost in the fire inferno.
Items donated by NEMA include, 4,000 bags of rice, beans and maize respectively, 25 litres of ground nut oil, 400 bags of sugar, milk and tin tomatoes amongst other.
