An Estate Surveyor and Valuer (ESV) Oladiran Ofi, has viewed the profession as one of the widest and deepest professional practices within the built environment.
Ofi, stated this in a chat with Our reporter in Abuja.
“This profession in view of its wide spectrum curriculum encompasses Land Administration, Valuation, Property Management, Plant and Machinery Valuation, Project Management, Estate agency, Arbitration, Property Taxation and Rating, Environmental Impact Assessment, Feasibility and viability studies, Building construction, Facility Management and host of other stakes in the built environment makes the profession to standout.
“It goes without saying that a well-trained Estate Surveyor and Valuer from a reputable University or Polytechnic must have undergone various courses that cuts across many disciplines that have impact in the environment, such as Architecture, Land Surveying, Building Construction Law (as it relates to land, contract Tort Arbitration etc) Town Planning, Valuation, Sociology, Philosophy etc.”
He said with all the fields of studies, it is necessary to acknowledge that the practice of Estate Surveying and Valuation, adding that, “since the knowledge and training of a qualified Estate Surveyors and Valuers covers Economics, Engineering, Estate Management, Law and Sociology among others, it then means that only those Estate Surveyors and Valuers who have actually excelled that will be able to meet the requirement for sufficiency and currency of knowledge in practice.
“It is therefore incumbent in the Valuer to continually expose themselves to contemporary international practices, laws and conventions, so that the quality of their service meets the required standard.”
