Seme Customs Command generates N2.1b in 3 months

Date:

April 19, 2014 (NAN) The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service says it generated N2.13 billion revenue in the first quarter of 2014.

This is contained in a statement signed by its spokesman, Mr Ernest Olottah, and made available to newsmen in Badagry, Lagos State. Olottah said in the statement that the N2.1 billion generated was an improvement on the N1.8 billion generated within the same period in 2013.

According to the spokesman, most of the revenue was generated from customs duty payment on imported motor vehicles.

He said that the command made 252 seizures valued at N140 million during the period.

“The seizures include motor vehicles, rice, frozen poultry products, vegetable oil, bales of secondhand clothing, narcotics, and cartons of soap, among others.

“The seized narcotics were handed over to operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for investigation and possible prosecution of suspects,” he stated.

The spokesman assured that the command would continue to fight smuggling and facilitate legitimate trade.

He said that within same period, the command handed over seized artefacts worth 16,870 dollars to the National Council for Museums and Monuments.

According to the spokesman, the Area Comptroller of Seme Command has ordered the full presence of the command’s officers at their duty posts during the Easter period.
