Insecurity entrenching poverty among rural dwellers – group says

A faith based group, the Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria (CSWN), has asserted that the insecurity in parts of Nigeria is entrenching more poverty among vulnerable rural dwellers.
The Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Agera Liti, made this assertion while donating relief materials to internally displaced people, IDPs, in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local government area of Kaduna state, recently.
According to her, people in most rural communities are already battling to survive poverty, the current insecurity has further entrenched it by creating more needs.
She added that scarce resources in the hands of rural dwellers that would have been used in developing themselves and their communities would now be used in rebuilding destroyed homes, caring for the injured or caring for IDPs. This she adds, helps in pulling back the hands of development.
While praying for healing upon Kaduna and the nation in general, the COO call on the government to rise to its constitutional responsibility of security all its citizens while ensuring that lawbreakers are duly arrested and prosecuted.
The Rahama camp in Zonkwa holds thousands of IDPs that had run to it for refuge in the wake of recent attacks on rural communities in Zangon Kataf Local government by suspected armed herdsmen.
