Student charged with alleged mischief, use of abusive words

A student, Patricia John, on Wednesday appeared in a Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged mischief and using abusive words on her colleague.

Patricia, who resides at no 2b, behind PHCN in Mararaba, Nasarawa state, is charged with four counts of criminal conspiracy, intimidation, use of abusive word and mischief.

The prosecutor, Insp. Joseph Ahua, told the court that Miss Progress Owin, of same address with the accused, lodged a report at the `A’ Division police station in Mararaba, on April 16.

Ahua said that the accused intruded into the complainant’s room and accused her of stealing her pair of slippers to use for rituals.

He said the accused person also called the complainant a prostitute.

The offence, he said, contravened sections 97, 397, 399 and 327 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, she is liable to five years in prison with an option of fine or both.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Habila Abundaga, admitted the accused to bail for N100,000 with one surety.

He ordered that the surety must present a passport photograph and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.(NAN)
