Gov Ortom chides Akume over plight of 1m IDPs in Benue

Date:

From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

The Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has lampooned the Minister for Inter-Governmental Affairs, Sen. George Akume for allegedly being insensitive to the plight of over 1 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the State
Ortom accused the Minister of failing to sympathise with the IDPs who are suffering, as he has refused to visit the camps , instead he is fraternalizing with enemies of the State.
The Governor, who said this while addressing Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders yesterday at the Government House, noted that Sen. Akume is only bothered about protecting his ministerial position to the detriment of the people.
He however, boasted that the PDP will dislodge the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) government at the center in 2023, averring that the party has failed abysmally.
According to him, the fall of the APC is the rise of the PDP, because Nigerians are waiting eagerly for the PDP in 2023.
He therefore appealed to party supporters to remain strong and faithful, assuring that the party will be fair and just in the picking its Governorship candidate in 2023.
“I will not interfer with the selection of a candidate for the party instead I will work with whoever emerges as the flag bearer. We will work hard for a consensus candidate but where it is not possible, we will go to primaries”, Ortom assured.
Our correspondent reports that the State PDP Chairman Sir. John Ngbede moved a motion for a vote of confidence on the Governor which was chorused by all stakeholders even as he expressed confidence in the ability of the Governor to lead the party to victory in 2023 general election.
