The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has challenged Nigerians to emulate Zambia and come out in lager numbers to cast their votes for candidates and parties of their choice in the forthcoming general election in 2023, warning that voter apathy will give room for election rigging.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, CNPP congratulated Zambia’s President-Elect, Hakainde Hichilema, saying that free, fair and credible election is key to national development.
Recall that Zambia’s opposition leader, Hichilema, was on Monday declared the winner of last week’s presidential election in the country, defeating the incumbent President Edgar Lungu by over a million votes.
Urging Nigerians to emulate the Zambians, the CNPP said it is about time Nigerians realised that Africa is waiting for Nigeria.
“Once we get elections right, it will rub off on all African countries as they are waiting for us to take the lead.
“As we look forward to the 2023 general elections, the CNPP therefore urge Nigerians to emulate the Zambians by coming out in their numbers to vote for candidates of their choice as voter apathy gives room for rigging of election outcomes”, the CNPP noted.
