A Shariah Court, sitting at Fagge Ya’n-Alluna on Tuesday sentenced one Halifa Abdullahi Yola for stealing eight copies of Quran to hard labour.
The accused, a resident of Yola quarters in Kano metropolis was said to have burgled a mosque at Tudun Maliki area on Sunday night and carted away with 8 copies of the holy book.
However, after completing his mission, the thief met his waterloo when he was apprehended by security guards of the mosque.
On interrogation, the accused confessed to have stolen the copies of the Quran.
The guards therefore handed him over to Filin hockey Police division, who on Tuesday charged him to the Shariah court.
When the prosecutor, Inspector Abdul Wada read the charges against the accused, he pleaded guilty to the offence.
The Presiding Judge, Dr Bello Musa Khalid sentenced the accused to sweeping the vast Fagge Juma’at mosque, for thirty days consecutively.
The Fagge Juma’at mosque is considered to be the biggest in the state.
