LINKS to improve lives of 3 million people in Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna

A non governmental organisation LINKs SRI with support from FCDO has promised to boost the lives of over three million by providing one million jobs in northern part of the country. 

This was announced by LINKs project manager Alhaji Abdurrahman Danbaba while delivering his speech during the celebration of SRI farmers field day held at Kadume town, Malam-madori local government area of Jigawa State. 

He explained that, as part of their contribution to support federal government’s effort of diversifying the economy, links projects through System of Rice Intensification will engage over 30,000 rice farmers on modern farming strategies for a better production.

The project manager who said, only rice farmers from some northern part of Nigeria that include Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna will benefit from the project added that, the programme will focus on the development of high potentials, pro-poor value chains, supporting them to become productive, competative  and attractive for investment at every level. 

According to him, the system of rice intensification (SRI) is climate-smart practice that increase the productivity of rice and reduce GHG emission (by between 22 percent and 64 percent).

Danbaba maintained that, an improved rice seeds and training was given to piloting farmers whom were selected across the benefiting villages in the three states.

He then urged the beneficiaries to step-down the skills to other people in their communities for more jobs creation and economic growth at large.
