Police officer confesses how inspector Ali shoot Tairu before independent panel in Abuja

Inspector Atabo Okpanachi attached to Enigma police station in Akpan local government of Kogi state has confessed  before independent investigation panel on human rights violations by defunct SARS and other units of the Nigeria police forces at human rights headquarters in Abuja yesterday.

He revealed that he was not the one that shot Tairu Garba on his left leg as it was claimed by the victim, a native of Ofor community of Akpan local government of the state but inspector Ali Abubakar, a  driver of police vehicle patrol as a result of self defence.

While narrating his ordeal before the panel, Okpanachi  said on March 7th 2021 they received a distressed call from one honorable who was serving as chairman of the local government to calm a dispute between two communities, Enigma and Ofor over chieftaincy tittle.

 On getting there they found out that over seventy irate persons were gathered burning tyres disturbing peace of the area that led to unrest in the communities and prompted them to find a means to scared them away.

He said further that the police vehicle was attacked by the community boys trying to disarmed them which angered the police vehicle driver, inspector Ali Abubakar to shoot Tairu Garba on his left leg, not him (Okpanachi) as claimed by the victim.

Speaking earlier, Tairu Garba the (victim) who narrated his death escaped from inspector Okpanachi insisted that it was Okpanachi that shot him not inspector  Ali.
