Friends of Nigeria Sports ( FSN), a group of journalists, stakeholders and enthusiasts on the development and fortune of Nigerian sports have raised the alarm over plans by NBFF Secretary and some top officials of the Ministry of Sports to deceive and defraud Nigeria by embarking on a jamboree with the national team in guise of taking them to participate in continental competitions.
Speaking with journalists, spokesperson of the group, Asiwaju Akeem Busari, disclosed that top officials in the ministry plans to take the team to participate in a continental championship whose registration for participation ended Sunday night.
” We discovered that the NBBF secretary in concert with some top ministry officials plan to take the team out to participate into a championship that FIBA MAP registration platform closed Sunday night exactly 11.59 GMT.
” They plan to take the team out at all cost on a jamboree, get to the venue and claim ignorance of any letter from FIBA.
” The Secretary General has been decieving Nigerians that she has been communicating with FIBA in recent times, contrary to the facts that FIBA has only been in communication with Engr. Musa, who is still recognised as President of NBBF.
“I want the public to ask the Secretary to produce proof of her recent communications with FIBA.
Asiwaju Busari was quick to query how the ministry which consistently claimed lack of funds to sponsor the national teams to the Afrobasket championships in Rwanda and Cameroon, suddenly have the financial power to organise the final 8.
” NBBF organized and funded the preliminaries of the Premier league in both conferences, suddenly the ‘broke’ ministry has woken up to fund the final 8. It is appalling and a miscalculated attempt to hijack the duties of NBFF,” he noted.
