The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), has empowered no fewer than 150 people living with HIV/AIDS in Kano state.
The empowerment is on three income-generating trades.
The Director General (DG) of the agency, Dr Aliyu Gambo, stated this while presenting certificates to the beneficiaries in Kano on Friday.
Represented by a staff of the agency, Hajiya Hafsat Gumel, Gambo said the beneficiaries, drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state, were trained in confectionery, make-up and hair dressing.
He explained that the gesture was to enable them to become self-reliant and employers of labour.
The DG further stated it was part of the agency’s measures to bring HIV under control.
The NACA boss revealed that each of the participants would be given N75,000 as an economic empowerment package.
He explained that the beneficiaries are 75 women and 75 men, adding that they would be given certificates after the completion of the training.
Earlier, one of the organizers of the programme, Malam Fakaradeen Ahmad, urged the participants to make good use of the money and share the knowledge with others.
Amina Isa, who spoke on behalf of the participants, also thanked NACA and its partners for the gesture.
