With the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON less than two weeks away, Guinea military president, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya has told the country’s squad to the biennial tournament that they should either win the trophy or bring back the money spent in preparing for it.
Guinea are in Group B of the continental showpiece alongside Zimbabwe, Senegal and Malawi.
Speaking at the send-off ceremony, Doumbouya, the former army general who rose to power through a military coup that toppled former President Alpha Condé in October, challenged the team to win the continental showpiece in Cameroon.
“Bring back the trophy or bring back the money we invested in you. Period,” the President said.
Guinea remuneration in AFCON:
AFCON Qualification Bonus: US$20,000 each
Appearance Fee: US$2,000 each
Round of 16: US$10,000 each
Quarter-Finals: US$12,500 each
Semi-Finals: US$20,000 each
Finals – US$30,000 each
Guinea kick start their campaign against Malawi on January 10.
The 2021 AFCON Will Kick-off on January 9 to February 6, 2022 in Cameroon.
Igoche Mark Hails D’Tigress Captain Adora Elonu On Grassroots Basketball Development
An Aspirant for the Nigeria Basketball Federation Presidency, Igoche Mark has saluted Adaora Eleonu for her efforts to uplift women’s Basketball in Enugu State and to give a boost to the Girl Child, through her pet project.
The US-born international basketball forward and Captain of the Nigeria Women’s National Team, Adaora Elonu, who hails from Okpatu in Udi Local Government Area,hosted a basketball camp on December 27,2021 at the Indoor Sports Hall, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu.
Reacting to the development,Igoche Mark praised Elonu for her kind gesture towards the development of basketball.
“I sincerely appreciate Adora Elonu for her gesture towards developing the game(basketball). She taught girls the basics of basketball and encouraged them to develop interest in the sports as a means of earning resources and attention.Her gesture is line with our core mandate in the New Face of Basketball.”Mark stated.
Elonu who plays basketball in the United States is in Enugu for the festive season and other engagements.
