Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi on Saturday in Lokoja joined other leaders in paying tribute to the heroes of the armed forces who have lost their lives in service.
Bello commemorated the day’s floral offering in honor of the fallen heroes at the Cenotaph of the First and Second World Wars in Lokoja.
Addressing reporters at the event, Bello reiterated his administration’s commitment and support to the military and the families of fallen heroes.
“The work of the fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price to hold the country together will never be in vain.
“And the only way to guarantee that is for the government at all levels to stand up to guarantee a peaceful society,” Bello said.
Bello said his administration would continue to prioritize the safety of all citizens and residents of the state, noting that the well-being and logistical support to the military in the state remain paramount.
Responding to questions about calls to join the 2023 presidential race, Bello said he had been aware of similar calls from “very much of the country, including youth, women’s organizations and associations.
“I will answer calls loud and clear at the right time.”
Bello praised Malam Mai Mala Buni, acting chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Extraordinary Convention Committee for repositioning the party, highlighting efforts geared toward the party’s upcoming convention.
He noted that the APC under the leadership of Mai Mala “is more formidable in strength and membership.”
