Surveyor General of the Federation, Surv. Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin has promised to provide optimal services and accountability to the Nigerian public to enhance productivity in surveying and mapping practices.
Adebomehin who made this known Friday during an interactive session with newsmen in Abuja promised to always abreast members of the public of the OSGoF’s activities saying that it gladdens his heart that OSGoF has recorded moderate achievements and intend to consolidate and improve on them which was possible given Federal Government’s support.
He said that parts of the success story of the OSGoF was improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) occasioned by the franchise of some of operations and services in line with the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Agenda of the Federal Government.
Adebomehin informed the OSGoF was exploring various means within the law to ensure increased revenue generation saying they can boast of about the best state-of-the-art printing press fully operational for any printing works.
He said the Office was fully repositioned to adequately discharge its statutory duties to meet its obligations to the Government and citizens.
He said they had concluded arrangements for installation of a number of Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS), and revamping of more than ten others to work properly.
He said their plan was to make geospatial data, other products and services accessible to consumers and other end users from any parts of the country and the world.
He noted that to enhance general capacity of the Office in providing optimal services, and real-time products and geospatial data, Ground Penetrating Radar System (GPRS) had been procured to detecting infrastructures such as conduit cables, pipes and any other — materials under the ground.
He said it was to assist during excavation works to avoid destruction of things underneath the ground even those buried to 8 metres in depth.
He said he had ensured that 24 surveyors with OSGoF and invitation extended to sister organizations like the National Boundary Commission (NBC) and the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) for training by experts from Portugal.
Continuing, he said the Office was working towards overhauling the High Performance Data Centre of the Office which he thanked Federal Government for the concern it had expressed to bring the centre back to live.
