The leadership of the Nile University based in the FCT has honoured some government functionaries alongside the royal fathers during the 4th celebration of the institution’s cultural festival at the weekend.
Speaking at the occasion, the vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Huseyin Sert, said that the government functionaries as well as traditional rulers were recognized during the cultural day of the university based on their contributions towards the development of the institute.
He charged the awardees of the day to continue to partner with the university for the sake of relationship existing among them for a long time now.
Sertsaid that the management of the university would continue to provide an enabling environment for the students to enhance learning.
One of the awardees who spoke to People’s Daily during the occasion, the paramount chief of Yoruba in the FCT, Oba Olusegun Salau, said that the award came to him as a surprise thing.
He commended the management of the University for providing the quality education for the children of Nigeria.
Salau, Thanked the leadership of the University for the Honour done to him.
On his part, the Otunba of Yoruba in the FCT, Dr. Wasiu Tunwase, said that conferred on Oba OlusegunSalau was a step in the right direction.
He called on Yoruba to continue to support Oba OlusegunSalau to earn him more awards in the future.
During the occasion, the gifts were presented to Hausa, Igala, and Ebira who emerged as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in the cultural display.
