The African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned the recent declaration for presidency by an activist, Omoyere Sowore, saying that he remained expelled from the party since 2019.

A statement issued yesterday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Sylvester Cletus, told Sowore that Presidency is not a tea party, neither is it about aimlessly jostling on the streets.

“It is a serious constitutional business for competent, mature and resourceful citizens who have genuine passion and patriotic charisma to provide progressive leadership that will improve the people’s wellbeing and make Nigeria great again

“AAC tickets are not for those pursuing personal agenda or aggrandizement at the detriment of national peace, unity, stability, cohesion and advancement

“The party welcomes numerous Nigerians who have recently obtained AAC’s membership cards as we intensify our membership drive across the nation”, the statement said.

It also said AAC will maintain its cherished goodwill, integrity and open door policy as they receive and welcome more members and aspirants vying for various elective offices in the nation.

“The attention of the African Action Congress (AAC) led by Dr Leonard Nzenwa as National Chairman, has been drawn to reports especially from social media of the intention of one Omoyele Sowore to run for president in 2023 on the platform of the party.

“AAC states categorically that Sowore was expelled from our great party in 2019 and cannot by any stretch of imagination aspire to contest for any election on its platform. The records are there and cannot be controverted.

“This clarification has become necessary following inquiries on the purported declaration for which the party was unaware and never gave consent to.

“The National Secretariat of the party in Abuja thus clear the air that Sowore’s purported intention to contest for president on AAC platform when he knew he had long been expelled from the party shows it is a joke taken too far. The party’s ticket is not for jesters and blackmailers.

“AAC wishes to restate that Nigeria’s Presidency is not for charlatans. It is not aimlessly jostling on the streets but a serious constitutional  business for  competent, charismatic, passionate and resourceful citizens who have genuine passion and  patriotism   to provide progressive leadership that will improve the people’s wellbeing and make Nigeria great again”, the party said.
