Unfreeze Chelsea’s account, save fans from emotional trauma – Orji Kalu Appeals To UK Govt.

2023 All Progressives Congress, APC Presidential aspirant, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu have called on the United Kingdom Government to unfreeze Chelsea Football Club’s account and save their fans from emotional stress, and trauma.

The Senate Chief Whip at the Nigeria Senate who made the call on Sunday, noted that the sanctions meted out on Chelsea FC by the UK Government following attack on Ukraine by Russia, was too harsh. 

The Africa’s Pillar of sports who have deep interest in English Premiership League and had two years ago declared his intention to purchase Arsenal Football Club, said Chelsea is a football club with millions of followers across the globe.

Adding that these passionate followers are  emotionally attached to the club and majority of them want peace restored in the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

“Peaceful resolution, negotiations and respect to one’s dignity remains the best way to resolve conflicts.

“The Premier League has disqualified Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich as a director of the club after the oligarch was sanctioned by the UK government.

“Abramovich had his British assets – including Chelsea – frozen on Thursday as part of the government’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“I am appealing to the British government to unfreeze the account of Chelsea football club, and save the club, her fans and others from emotional stress and trauma,” the former Abia State Governor started.

Adding “In my opinion, the sanction on Chelsea football club is too harsh considering the fact that it is a football club with millions of followers across the globe. 

“These passionate followers are  emotionally attached to the club. Majority of them want peace restored in the Russia-Ukraine crisis,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

The UK government imposed sanctions on Roman Abramovich on Thursday morning, freezing the Chelsea owner’s assets due to his links to Vladimir Putin, Russian President who attacked Ukraine on Thursday, February 24. 

The attack have led to thousands of Ukrainians killed, over 3 million displaced and structures damaged.
