The Federal government has been warned by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) to meet its demands within a month or face an indefinite strike action.
The Union issued the ultimatum at its 102nd national executive meeting held yesterday at Federal Polytechnic, Yola.
According to the meeting, critical aspect of the memorandum between the Union and the Federal Government remains unimplemented despite several appeals.
The Union maintained that, it has suspended its 61 days long industrial action following the signing of the memorandum of understanding on the 20th June, 2021.
It added that the suspension of the industrial action was for a period of three months and was principally in consideration of appeals by students and members of the public, adding that the suspension period was to enable the government conclude processes already initiated in the direction of fulfilment of the terms of the memorandum of action.
“It’s regretful that, 9 months after the suspension of the industrial action and 6 months after the expiration of the three months period of suspension, it has become pertinent to provide the public with details of the Union’s ordeals as a sector in the hands of the government.”
The union recalled that the six critical aspect of the memorandum of action includes; non release of the approved rivitalization funds for the sector which amounts to #15billion as the first tranche of funds to address the decay of infrastructure in the sector.
The Union also listed non release of arrears of the new minimum wage which has been in implementation since April 2019.
