Clerics beg FG to resolve ASUU strike

The United Pastors Initiative for Good Governance (UPIG) has pleaded with the federal government to resolve the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The pastors also vowed that it will mobilise its members across the country to vote out aspirants who see politics as business rather than focusing on solving Nigeria’s social problems and deliver good governance. 

Addressing  journalists in Abuja, president of the group, Rev James Muya said they were informing and educating thousands of their executives across Nigeria to effect their intentions. 

“We are here today to address the nation on behave of our members and all citizens of this great country Nigeria, the insecurity in the country is growing every passing day, the economic situation is not getting better, the (ASSIU) strike is worsen by the day, yet political activities are growing stronger and louder.

“Therefore, today, we are calling on the government, especially the president having appreciated all your efforts in trying to make thing work in the country, we are asking you to put more effort in tackling the security situation, look once through the economic matter and try your possible best to resolve the (ASUU) strike issue in the country. 

“As for the politicians, this is our message to you; while you are forgetting all the burning fire in the country to pursue your political ambitions, we are doing our own calculations informing thousands of our executives spreads across all the regions in the country, right from the ward level in the various local government areas, through to the state and zonal level with the national leaders to educate millions of our members to see your intention and rate you by them.”

Muya further urged President Muhammadu Buhari to try more effort in salvaging Nigeria security challenges. 

He said, “ Our country is in its greatest danger state, yet politics has been the order of the day, the first is the commercialisation of political office in Nigeria, politics is big business and everyone knows that, we are informing thousands of our executives spreads across all the regions in the country, right from the ward level in the various local government areas, through to the state and zonal level with the national leaders, to educate millions of our members to see your intention.”
