We’ll build partnership to address sexual, gender based violence – NSCDC boss

The Commandant General, Nigeria and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abubakar Audi, has said that the corps will build sustainable partnership for dealing with the hydra-headed monster called Sexual and Gender Based Violence.

Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja, at a 3-day summit themed, “Building Sustainable Peace in Africa, combating the menace of SGBV in Nigeria and across the globe”, the CG said the 3-day summit is being organized in collaboration with the International Agency for Gender.

He said peace will by and large, feature series of lectures and workshops carefully designed to build the skills of participants and activate their zest for responding to Gender Based Violence in Nigeria.“I urge all the participants to commit the
very best in going through this crucial training programme”.

Also speaking, Head, Gender Unit, CSC Alao Ajet Kemi, said the summit, which is the first of its kind “since the creation of
our dear Corps and among other Paramilitary Agencies, is aimed at assessing the policy direction of Government on Gender matters and creating an open dialogue on sustainable gender programming for the Corps and other Agencies.

“This is with a view to drawing workable and effective implementation strategies. “In a forum of this nature, it is appropriate to do a self-appraisal, recognize the steps that have been taken, and draw the lessons that would make us forge ahead for best practices on gender issues.

On his part, Rep Master Sergeant Lynn Williams, Leader, California National Guard, said, “we are glad for the collaboration to address these various challenges in the world.

“We protect our wives and daughters because they are our family and that is very important.” He said inclusiveness is key and that inclusion discussion is very important for the world to move further.
