Insecurity: Rise up to your constitutional responsibilities – Osun Lawmaker tells Buhari

Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bamidele Salam, (PDP, Osun) has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari, to rise up to his constitutional responsibilities of protecting lives and property of citizens by acting fast and decisively in securing the release of the remaining kidnapped victims of the Kaduna to Abuja train attack.

The lawmaker who briefed the media in Abuja on Wednesday on the issue arrived at the briefing venue with a placard to protest what hr called “inactions” of the President to rescue hundreds of Nigerians languishing in captivity by terrorists.

He noted a horrendous video making the rounds on the internet showing how victims of the recent terrorist attack on a Kaduna –Abuja bound train where many lost their lives and other were abducted.

 “There is a viral video of the victims, pleading for urgent intervention in the face of threats by their abductors to kill them within a specified time given, if certain conditions as demanded were not met. This video has been trending on the social media, prompting renewed call for urgent action,” Hon. Salam.said.

Responding to questions on over the possibility of the National Assembly initiating an impeachment proceeding in the face of rising insecurity, Hon. Bamidele  said it has not gotten to the level of impeachment”, noting that in view of the fragile nature of the country, it would not be good to create another problem in an attempt to solve an existence one.

“What the country needs to do is to secure the release of the Kaduna train victims. Too many precious Nigerian lives have been lost to kidnappers and other malevolent individuals to permit these hapless victims of the train hijack to become the latest statistics of a nefarious enterprise (which) has sullied the national image”, the lawmaker stated.

Speaking further, Salami who represents Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State said “I call on my colleagues in the National Assembly and Nigerians at large to join me in urging President Buhari to do all that is within his power as the Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces to free these victims and many others languishing in captivity”.

He was adorned in black trousers and a shirt, on bare feet with a placard carrying an inscription; “Muhammadu Buhari, Do More To Secure Freedom For The Kaduna Train Victims”.
