Death toll in Benue Democracy Day killing now 15, as thousands displaced

The death toll in Democracy Day attack on Igama community in Edumoga, Okpokwu local government area of Benue State by suspected herdsmen is said to have risen to 15.

This was just as another community, Ifeche was also attacked on Sunday night.

Chairman, Okpokwu local government Mrs. Amina Audu disclosed this in a telephone chat with newsmen, narrating that the attackers invaded the community at about 11 am.

According to her, 9 corpses were recovered on Sunday while 6 on Monday, adding that search is on for several missing persons.

Mrs. Amina also, said the incident has led to the displacement of thousands of persons especially women, the elderly and children who are taking refuge in Ojaabo, Ojigo ward as well as Utonkon in Ado local government area.

“All their houses and property were destroyed. There is not a single house in the area that is standing”, Amina lamented, intimating that security personnels are in the area at the moment.
