The House of Representatives has urged its committee on Intergovernmental Affairs to liaise with the Peace and Conflict Resolution Institute of Nigeria and other relevant Government agencies to intervene and resolve recurring crisis  between the Lyangit and Kumbwang Communities of Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

This followed a motion of urgent national importance moved by Rep. Beni Lar during plenary.

Moving the motion, Lar noted that the government should bring a lasting solution to the communities which have been engaged in a series of communal clashes resulting from land dispute.

According to her, the most recent communal clash which occurred last month claimed several lives and properties worth millions of naira, adding that the crises have also displaced many people and rendered them homeless as the Communities has been razed down by each other, resulting in both communities suffering tremendous loss of lives and properties.

He said “Concerned that if nothing is done to intervene and restore lasting peace in these communities, this re-occurring communal clashes will continue unabated and lead to further loss of lives and properties.

“Also concerned: That there are displaced persons that are passing through     untold hardship as they have no shelter and food for their sustenance.

“Disturbed that soon these displaced persons may start dying of exposure to unfavorable weather and starvation as they have no shelter and access to good food and drinkable water”, she added.

To this end, the House urged its  Committee to report back within two weeks.
