The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, has rejoiced with the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, on his 59th birthday.
Gbajabiamila, in statement by Lanre Lasisi, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity described Omo-Agege as a fine gentleman, said the Deputy President of the Senate has proved to be a committed and dogged legislator over the years.
He said Omo-Agege has been a great pillar of support to the Nigerian Legislature, especially since he became the Deputy President of the Senate in 2019.
The Speaker eulogized Omo-Agege for his contributions to the growth and development of the Nigerian democracy.
Speaker Gbajabiamila wished Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege more years in sound health .
Also,the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase has congratulated the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, on the occasion of his 59th birthday.
In a congratulatory message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Umar Muhammad Puma, Wase described Senator Omo-Agege as an intelligent and experienced legislator, who contributed greatly to the stability enjoyed in the Senate.
“On behalf of my family and constituents, I heartily rejoice with my brother and friend, the Deputy President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as you attend the 59th birthday.
“Your Excellency, you have made invaluable contributions to the sustenance and development of our democracy and you have also demonstrated strong commitment towards the independence of the legislature through effective legislation.
“On this special day of your 59th birthday anniversary, it is my prayer that God will grant you many more years in good health to continue to render service to our fatherland, wase said”.
Plateau farmers lose N18bn to potato blight, says commissioner
Dr Hosea C, the Plateau State Commissioner for Agriculture says that farmers in the state lost potatoes worth N18 billion to potato blight disease.
Finangwal disclosed this when delegates from the National Root Crops Research Institute; Umudike paid the ministry a courtesy visit on Tuesday in Jos.
The commissioner said that out of the 150,000 hectares of land cultivated; 52,000 hectares were infected with blight resulting to 2,000 farmers losing N18 billion worth of potatoes.
Finangwal said that the ministry was proactive in reporting the case to Gov. Simon Lalong who immediately reported to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
He said that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture sent delegates from the research institute to the state to seek ways to proffer solution in curbing the disease.
