Revenue: AMAC Chairman warns residents against cash payment

Following the dissolution of revenue consultants by the administration of Abuja municipal Area council (AMAC), the executive chairman of the Area Council Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has warned the residents against paying all forms of revenue cash to anybody in the area.

Maikalangu gave the warning while presenting his address during the press conference on the new revenue regime of the Area Council.

According to the Chairman, we have stopped all forms of cash payments are henceforth. Prospective clients are advised to proceed to the Chief Revenue Officer’s Office in the Council secretariat to obtain payment of tellers and new account numbers and thereby proceed to make payment at designated banks.

> Continuing, he said: “Any technical partner, old or new who dwells in the old ways will be prosecuted. The new policy must be respected and statutory staff must strictly abide by it as far as revenue generation is concerned”.

> “Paying public is hereby enjoined to guard against criminals who, in the bid to short change government, collect peanut with fake receipts. The payment tellers, authentic account numbers and receipts are to be collected from the Chief Revenue Officer before proceeding to the bank for all payments”, he said.

The AMAC boss pointed out that he would soon embark on the collation of a data bank of all collections of revenues with a view to digitizing all revenue payments in order to block leakages as well restore hope in the system and said the termination of revenue consultants last week was to “introduce an automated system where tax payers can remit monies payable to the Council with the use of simple technologies such as the POS, handsets and other interrelated digital means”.

Maikalangu, however, called on the general public to co-operate as well as partner with his administration so as to move the entire Area Council to the next level, saying that he would run a responsible government.
