The House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora has advised Ms. Queen Agho, a Nigerian living in Norway, and who is facing legal battle for the custody of her one year old son to explore the option of appeal as provided by the Norwegian legal system.
The Chairperson of the Committee, Rep. Abike Dabiri-Erewa gave the advice yesterday following a complaint brought before the Committee’s Public hearing.
The child case, it was learnt has been decided by a court in Norway with the child given to a Norwegian family for adoption on the excuse that the mother and child do not have emotional connection and lack eye contact, and may not have further relationship until after eighteen (18) years.
The Queen’s case came to public notice a few weeks ago when a motion on matters of urgent national importance was brought in by Hon. Samson Osagie, (APC, Edo) on behalf of Ms. Queen Agho, a native of Benin in Edo State who was having a running battle with Norwegian officials over her one year-old son forcibly taken away from her.
According to the relation who approached Hon. Osagie on the matter, Queen was forcibly taken to a psychiatric home by the police and child welfare service for the purpose of generating official evidence to substantiate their claims, a move which he said failed as the doctor confirmed her to be mentally fit.
