We need political structures in FCT to reclaim our land – Traditional rulers

Traditional Rulers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said there is need for a strong political structures in the FCT Irrespective of the nomenclature, be it Governor, mayor, or administrator.

According to traditional rulers,the creation of the political structures may not done on a plater of gold,but adding that everyone in the FCT is pushing for it.

They made the call at a tow day roundtable on access to justice and human rights protection in Nigeria organized by Resources Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education CHRICED in Abuja, yesterday.

The Sarkin of Karshi, who was represented by Galadima of Karshi, Suleiman Yakubu said “We have been denied our right in any form be it political, economical or cultural and the only way to tackle that is by coming together under one voice.

There is no part of this country that is at disadvantage as the indigenous people of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja and we have refused to identify that we have lots of enemies within us who are supposed to call for a clear unity among us, especially the political class,” he said.

Also, the Sa’peyi of Garki, HRH. Alhaji (Dr.) Usman Nga kupi said we the indigenous people of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) need to seat up as stakeholders irrespective of our political, religious, and tribal differences.

“We need to work together as a family because there are a lot of implications to this, but our political leaders are not concerned about it but only their interest and if this continues, the outburst would not be good for us. We are lacking unity in Abuja and that’s one of our major challenges which we need to work on for the betterment of our land.”

On her part, MacArthur Foundation Country Director, who was represented by Foundation Senior Program Officer, Dr. Amina Salihu said for our right to be equally protected, we have to acknowledge the disconnection and gap for us to meet that right.

“We want to focus on the gap between what is on paper and what happens in reality and is also important for us to measure what we have gained for us to move forward we all need each other and that’s where Macarthur foundation comes in for the right of everyone must be fully protected”.
