From Ibrahim Sidi Muh’d, Gusau
The Zamfara State opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the State Government has issued and order for the arrest of the Acting state party Chairman, Mukhtar Lugga, other exco’s, gubernatorial candidate and Zamfara central Senatorial candidate, a former Minister of Information, Aliyu Ikra Bilbis.
At a press briefing today (Tuesday) in Gusau the state capital, the state Acting Chairman, Mukhtar Mohammed Lugga, lamented that the Police Command has been served by the state government with a list of PDP members including the state Chairman and the gubernatorial candidate for immediate arrest.
Lugga who alleged that, the state government has directed all security chiefs in the state to with immediate effect embark on the arrest of number of prominent politicians in the PDP over alleged vandalization of political billboards, said six refutable and high esteemed politicians have already been arrested by the Police.
He revealed that amongst the arrested and detained by the Police is the former member house of representatives and former Minister of Information, Aliyu Ikra Bilbis who is currently a Senatorial candidate of the PDP at Zamfara Central.
According to him, a couple of months ago, Zamfara State Government had similarly facilitated the arrest of a popular PDP Chieftain, former Ambassador Captain Mairiga who had also been remanded by the Sharia court in the state
Lugga further informed that, the present administration of Governor Bello Matawalle and the security agencies in the state have jointly vowed to make Zamfara a hell for PDP members, making it difficult to run the opposition party for the 2023 elections in the state.
The Acting Chairman has denied claim by the state government that, the PDP members while welcoming the homecoming of it’s gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Dauda Lawan Dare on the 27th/11/2022, have destroyed billboards and properties belonging to innocent citizens in Gusau the state capital.
“All we have been calling for was that the State Government should only focus on security challenges facing the state, and to embark on moving the state forward through execution of the expected developmental projects.
“Being our great party PDP has been known as peace-loving, we have equal rights to protect the property belonging to good people of Zamfara State, therefore, it is a mere lie for the state government to make such an empty claim that we destroyed properties and the billboards”, Lugga has kicked.
