The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has attributed the zero loss of lives to flooding this year in Abuja, the nation’s capital to the massive support of media through sensitisation.
The Director General of FEMA, Alhaji Abbas Idriss made this assertion when he received the Award of most Responsive Friend of the Media conferred on him by NUJ NTA, at the NTA channel 5 Media Week, in Abuja.
Idriss appreciated the media for it’s coverage of the activities of the Agency, particularly the search and rescue efforts, a statement from Head, FEMA’s Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, stated.
Represented by the Acting Director, Forecasting Response and Mitigation, Mrs. Florence Wenegieme, the DG said the award was timely and would motivate FEMA to do more to sensitise the people within nooks and cranny of the FCT.
According to him: “We believe in media coverage especially with NTA Channel 5, that has grassroots coverage in 5 local languages and which covers the six area councils.NTA covers our search and rescue operations, and FEMA believes in media coverage”.
The FEMA Boss added that the Agency valued the media as a partner in realising it’s mandate.
