As the world marks the 2022 Universal Health Coverage, UHC Day, the Kaduna state government said it is working round the clock to ensure that out of pocket spending on health care is reduced.
The State Commissioner for Health and Human services Dr Amina Baloni disclosed this during a road walk to mark this year’s UHC, with the theme: “Build the world we want, a Healthy Future for all” organized by the NGO, in conjunction with Womenhood Foundation, and KADCHMA in Kaduna yesterday.
According to her, the state government believed that no one should be sick, denied health care or die because of their financial inability or because the services they need are too far away from where they live, hence the rehabilitation of 277 Primary Health Care Center across the state.
She added that the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA) which began the provision of healthcare services to the enrollees since June 2020, have a single objective of reducing out of pocket spending on health care to the bare minimum.
Dr. Baloni stressed that, “UHC means ensuring that all people have access to quality promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health services they need at an affordable cost without the risk of financial hardship linked to paying for care and Kaduna government under the leadership of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’ is already doing that.”
In his remarks, Director General of KADCHMA Mallam Abubakar Hassan said the Authority has enrolled 521,096 persons in the health insurance scheme.
Mallam Hassan, said the State Government has done so much, still doing and would continue to do all it could to ensure that health for all is guaranteed at the basic minimum level for the citizens.
According to him, in line with the theme of the celebration, the current administration in the state made efforts at ensuring that there is one Primary Health Care Centre in each of the Wards in the state, which is the first move.
“Again, the State Government went ahead to release 1% of its Consolidated Revenue Fund to enable it take care of the most vulnerable indigent citizens In the state under the KADCHMA.
“So, there are different layers of efforts which the present administration is working to ensure health for all is guaranteed in the state”, he said.
