The Labour Party (LP) has appointed former Political Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo, Akin Osuntokun as the new Director General of its Presidential Campaign.
This was confirmed by the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, in Abuja, on Tuesday.
According to Abure, the decision was reached after comprehensive consultations with party stakeholders across board.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by Diran Onifade, the Head of Media, Obi/Datti-Ahmed, said “The Obi-Baba Ahmed Campaign Organization has appointed Balogun Akin Osuntokun as the new Director-General of the campaign organisation. He succeeds Dr Doyin Okupe.
“Until recently, Osuntokun was the Zonal Coordinator(South) He is a Nigerian political scientist, strategist, researcher, administrator, journalist and writer, with experience in media advocacy, policy research and implementation and political analysis.
“A former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, Osuntokun served as Political Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and as Director of the Presidential campaign of the People’s Democratic Party in 2011. He brings to his new position vast political and media experience.”
Osuntokun will now replace Doyin Okupe who resigned from the position last week.
Okupe stepped down from the position following a federal high court judgment which convicted him of money laundering.
The court sentenced him to two years imprisonment but with an option to pay a N500,000 fine on each count, totalling N13 million.
Okupe opted to pay the fine after the sentencing.
