The Police Command in Zamfara state has repelled a planned attack by bandits on innocent communities in Gusau and Maru local government areas of the state.
The police also neutralized one bandit, arrested five and recovered 2 AK47 rifles.
Parading the suspects at the Police Command Gusau on Wednesday, the PPRO of the Command, SP Shehu Mohammed who spoke on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Kolo Yusuf, said on 1st January 2023 , Police Tactical Operatives had received a distressed call about bandits plan to block Gusau-Magami-Dansadau road to attack commuters and by extension some villages.
SP Mohammed informed that, the Police operatives mobilized to the locations and engaged the bandits to a serious gun battle during which one of the bandits was neutralised and others were repelled by the superior fire power, “as such, they retreated back to the forest with possible gun shot wounds”, adding that, two AK 47 rifles, two magazines, 104 round of live ammunition and bunch of charms belonging to the bandits were recovered at the scene.
In another development, Police operatives arrested two other suspected bandits identified as Umaru Buba, 21 years old and Babuga Manu, 20 years respectively.
He said the suspects were all indigenes of Baburasa village under Kainji local government area of Niger State, who specialized in kidnapping and cattle rustling in Zamfara, Katsina and Niger states.
