The police, yesterday in Abuja, failed to stop a protest demanding the rescue of the remaining 233 abducted schoolgirls in Maitama District of Abuja, the Federal Capital city.

Nearly 60 armed policemen went to the Unity Fountain, venue of the protest and attempted to prevent protesters, led by former Educaton Minister, Oby Ezekwesili, from their daily sit-in.

The police’s initial attempt to stop the protest last week drew flaks nationally and internationally.

A leader of the protest group, Naomi Mutah Nyadah, was arrested by the police reportedly on the orders of First Lady, Patience Jonathan. She was however released after widespread public condemnation of the police action.

Mrs. Ezekwesili tweeted yesterday that “WE HELD IT”, making reference to the attempt by the police to forcibly prevent her group from continuing with its #BringBackOur Girls protest, around the Unity Fountain in the capital city.
