Opposition insults Jonathan for dearth of ideology, says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday alleged that members of the opposition party hurl insults at President Goodluck Jonathan because they lack identifiable ideology.

Speaking while receiving the party’s zonal publicity secretaries led by their chairman, Ali Odeifa, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the opposition leaders resort to hurling insults and abuses at the President and members of the PDP out of frustration.

He said the party’s statement alleging that the opposition were supporting the Boko Haram insurgencies in the country after the Nyanya Motor Park bombing made the opposition leaders to desist from politicizing the challenge of insecurity facing the country.

According to Metuh, uncomplimentary comments and statements emanating from the opposition leaders embolden the sponsors of the insurgents who believe that they are serving the interest of their political masters.

He said “The fact that some of these insurgents have been financed by people who were encouraged by the hard stance, utterances, statements made by these opposition leaders; we don’t expect them to speak in pursuance of their personal interest”

“We are happy today that they have chosen the path of wisdom to temper their voice, they have heeded our call. I think our statement was positive in the sense that they have moderated their views, utterances. We are happy we did that, the party stands by that statement and have had profound effect on the body polity,” he declared.

He added “The statement of the opposition always is definitely as ugly as their looks and their actions. It is a product of frustration, resentment against their creator, because anybody that is happy with himself, a fulfilled human being will be cautious in his statements and the way he insults others”.

Metuh explained that the party has provided a level playing field for party members, stressing that the party believes that power belongs to the people. “Our mantra is that power to the people in a democratic setting, it is not one man that chooses his successor, or chose the people that will contest election” he added.

Speaking on the abduction of the Borno school girls, Metuh said, “Never in the history of this country have we had such challenge come at a very critical time of our development, we are saddened by the abduction of the Girls of Government Secondary School in Chibok”.

He added that the party will never play politics with human lives insisting that the government will work hard to ensure security of lives and property.

While acknowledging that the party may have made mistakes in the past, he said, “Like in democratic setting, no one is perfect, the PDP is not perfect. Yes Nigerians expect us to be better than we are, but Nigerians truly know that our competition (opposition) is not an option” metuh added.

Earlier, the chairman of the forum zonal publicity secretaries of PDP and South-South zonal publicity secretary, Odeifa stated that the loyalty of the forum to President Jonathan, Adamu Mu’azu and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Odeifa applauded Jonathan’s effort on insecurity and his wisdom in accepting assistance from foreign countries.

The delegation included; Emmanuel Okpokpo (south-South), Al-Amin San (North East) Taofeeq Ganiyu (South West) and Suleman Mohammed (North Central).
