The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in collaboration with Association of Northern Agricultural and Allied Commodities Practitioners have introduced the agro e-naira engagement programme for local farmers in Adamawa state.
Unveiling of the farmers programmable money e-Naira engagement by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele said that the project is targeting to capture one million farmers by next year.
Represented by Director, Information Technology, CBN,at the occasion in Yola Thursday, Emefiele said that the system will allow local farmers to access loan and procure agricultural inputs via the platform using the digital currency.
Emefiele stated that, the platform represented an efficient and easy method for farmers to access the finance they needed.
“We are providing a platform so we can have transparency, we can have accountability and make the program efficient so we can provide finance to the people who need it”, she stated.
In his remark, the President of ANAACOP, Sadiq Daware said although the agro e-naira program was flagged off with fifty farmers, the association planned to involve one million farmers before the next wet and dry season farming and six million actors in 10 years.
