The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has agreed to suspend its nationwide strike action billed to commence on Wednesday.

This was contained in a resolution of a meeting between the representatives of the Federal Government and the officials of organised Labour held at the Aso Rock Preaidential Villa, Abuja.

The resolution was read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

According to the Speaker also, Labour and the Federal Government agreed to set up a committee on thr review of salaries.

He said agreements were equally reached to overhaul the education and health sectors as well as infrastrucrure that would cushion the effects of petrol subsidy removal.

Monday’s meeting was the second time in five days, between the Federal Government delegation and officials of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the recent removal of petrol subsidy.

Following the declaration by President Bola Tinubu at his inauguration that fuel subsidy was over, there was a spontaneous rise in the pump price of petrol, leading to public outcry.

The NLC and its sister union, Trade Union Congress (TUC) had last Wednesday met with the delegation of the Federal Government but the meeting ended in a deadlock as the parties were unable to agree on a common ground.

The NLC after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting last Friday declared Wednesday, June 5 as commencement date of a nationwide strike by both public and private sector workers.

Both the NLC and the TUC are asking for a reversal of the current pump price of N550 to the N195 which was the price before May 29.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila led the government delegation to Monday’s meeting while the NLC President, Joe Ajaero led the organised labour delegation.
