APC sweeps Kano LG polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all the local government areas in Kano state in the just concluded local council polls held in the state.

To this end, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, led by formed governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau, has kicked against the outcome of polls, describing the whole electoral exercise as a sham.

Going by the result released by the Kano state Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), the APC swept all the 44 Local Government chairmanship and 484 councilorship seats in the state, as officially declared by the Returning Officers at various levels.

A statement issued yesterday by the executive chairman of KANSIEC, Sani Lawal, stated that the election was largely successful and peaceful.

He further said that KANSIEC discharged its constitutional responsibilities of organising, conducting and supervising Local Government polls on Saturday, 17th May, 2014.

It further described the success recorded during the election as the collective success of the people of Kano state.

Meanwhile, reacting to the outcome of the polls, former Kano State governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, described the Saturday’s Local Government elections in Kano State as a sham and a fraud, marred with irregularities.

The PDP chieftain said that the leadership of the party received reports that no standard election was conducted from all the 44 local government areas of the state, as expected from the KANSIEC.

He also claimed that the PDP voters were unable to cast their votes during the election due to failure of the KANSIEC to provide adequate election materials.
