The National Chairman of the South West Agenda For Asiwaju (SWAGA), Adedayo Adeyeye, has called for understanding following the removal of fuel subsidy that has led to pains and high cost of goods and services.

The SWAGA boss was reacting to the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that has seen Nigerians buying a litre of fuel for over N617.

In a statement made available to journàlists on Sunday, he pointed out that the lack of courage to remove fuel subsidy in the past 15 years by the former administrations is the reason Nigerians are feeling the pains now.

Adeyeye, who was Senate spokesperson in the 9th National Assembly, assured that situations would soon abate as measures are being put in place to ensure mitigations.

The statement read, “The removal of oil subsidy and the new exchange rate regime of the President Bola Tinubu for now, has led to inflationary pressure. This is causing some hardship on the part of the masses.

“As the saying goes, there is no gain without pains. Like the president has said that while trying to give birth, one must go through the pains of labour, however when the child is born, the safe birth will keep the mother happy.”

He urged Nigerians to see the economic reforms of President Tinubu as the best move in the nation’s interest.

He envisaged that in the next one year, results of subsidy removal will manifest.

“The president is just about 60 days in office. He still has over 46 more months to spend in his first term of 48 months, having spent just two.

“President Bola Tinubu is taking decisions that should have been taken over 15 years ago.

“Nigerians should give President Tinubu some time, to allow his policies to mature and for us to begin to see the positive effects,” he said.
