In its quest to improve othe performamve of the team, Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia, Abia State, has appointed former Super Eagles goaltender, Ike Shorunmu as the team’s goalkeeper trainer.
The Ogun state born shot stopper was unveiled on Monday at the club’s secretariat in Umuahia by the Chairman of Abia Warriors, Coach John Obuh in a brief but impressive ceremony witnessed by members of management.
Coach Obuh said the management decided to go for Shorunmu because of his vast experience and antecedents hoping that his addition will be a big influence.
On his own, Shorunmu said he settled for Abia Warriors based on personal conviction and expressed confidence that the team will achieve greater success this season.
Shorumu, 55, was a member of the Super Eagles squad at the 1998 World CUP in France. He has 36 caps for the team.
Coach Obuh who was a former Nigeria U-20 national team handler had promised to improve the fortunes of the club in the new season.
The 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier League, NPL season will commence on September 7.
