Doctors organise free health promotion exercise for residents

In demonstration of commitment towards providing quality healthcare delivery in the society, the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN) and the Society of family Physicians of Nigeria (SOFPON) have kicked off a 5-day health promotion exercise, in Abuja.

The exercise is part of the two bodies’ activities organized in celebrating this year’s World Family Doctors’, during which, they would conduct health awareness programme, scientific sessions and free medical service to residents in designated private hospitals.

It would be recalled that this year’s World Family Doctors Day with the theme: ‘Universal Healthcare Coverage: The role of the family doctor, was observed by all member countries of the World Organisation of Family Doctors.

According to the AGPMPN’s president, Dr. Dafen, a total of 100 residents of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), benefited from the free medical service, including surgery.

AGPMPN is the official body made up of the organised private sector health care delivery in Nigeria and it is a member of World Organisation of Family Doctors.

He said that the Family Doctors’ day provides as an opportunity for the stakeholders to recognize the important role of the family doctor in the healthcare system.

He noted that the organisation is aimed at promoting health and allied services, to promote the welfare and integrity of its members for the overall improvement of all medical profession.

Also, Dr. Akin Moses of SOFPON, there would be lectures on affordable healthcare financing, community based health insurance scheme, achieving efficient and effective healthcare delivery services, inter-sectorial collaboration for universal healthcare coverage and achieving universal healthcare coverage through people-centred integrated care.

He added that family physicians in primary healthcare play a key role in achieving an efficient and effective healthcare delivery to the people.
