Life Camp residents bemoan delay in completion of roundabout

Date:

lagos-road-3Some residents of Life Camp, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have complained about the delay in the completion of the roundabout being constructed in the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the roundabout, which construction has taken four years, is being handled by Julius Berger Construction Company.

Some residents of the area told NAN on Thursday in Abuja that the delay was causing traffic congestion.

Miss Joyce Yakpe, a worker of JG Affaires, a private company, who resides in the area, said the delay was hardships to the public.

A resident, David Ndayisa, of Elipalm Ventures, who also resides in the area, expressed appreciation to the FCT administration for embarking on the project.

He, however, stated that the delay was adversely affecting economic activities in the area through loss of man hours.

He appealed to the FCT authority to complete the project on time.

Reacting to the complaints, Mr. Isaac Njoku, Operation Staff of Julius Berger, attributed the delay to inadequate funding.

“Work on the roundabout will be intensified by the company if sufficient funds are released by the government,’’ he said.

He said that the management of the company was making efforts to complete the project on time.

A supervisor working with Berger, who sought anonymity, appealed to the residents to be patient, saying the roundabout was being constructed to ease traffic flow in the area.

“A flyover was the initial plan but was shelved because it will lead to demolition of structures in the area,” he said. (NAN)
