A Zamfara State based-Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) Voluntary AID, in conjunction with funded NGO, UKaid, has embarked on mission targeting at communities, to encourage victims who survived sexual and gender-based violence to speak up about their experiences.
This was disclosed to newsmen today in Gusau Zamfara State capital by the Project Manager of the NGO, Buhari Moriki, saying, the dialogue meetings have been conducted in Bilbis, Tsafe, Nasarawa, Godel and Birnin Magaji communities.
Moriki further noted that, the meetings which were conducted in collaboration with UKaid funded NGO, International Alert, was targeted at promoting stability, access to justice and accountability.
“There is need for a greater cohesion amongst various institutions and individuals working in the human rights space in order to end gender-based violence in our communities.
“The main aim is to inculcate the victims of SGBV to always feel free to speak up their ordeals without fear or being stigmatization for justice to play it’s role for their rights as the meetings were meant to sensitize the participants on the effect and preventive measures against the SGBV”, Moriki has stressed.
