The Yobe state Governor, Mai Mala Buni, met with officials of the World Bank and the Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), and discussed on measures to improve synergy and scale up services to improve the lives of the people affected by the insurgency in the state.
In a Press Release signed by Mamman Mohammed, the Director General on Press and Media Affairs, said Governor Buni expressed the need to enhance agricultural production to ensure food suffiency and security.
He said there is the urgent need to effectively enhance agriculture productivity for food security and economic development.
The Governor charged the international bodies to check the bureaucratic bottlenecks in their organizations retarding speedy support to communities faced with humanitarian disaster.
“The delay involved slows down the speed of reaching out to provide support to the affected communities, this should be considered to achieve maximum results.” He said.
“Our youth are ready to go into commercial agriculture to not only meet our food needs but to export it out of the state for economic growth.
“We are targeting food crops and Sesame seeds production, and government is determined to provide the required input to make agriculture in Yobe state attractive, productive and profitable”, Governor Buni emphasised.
Earlier, the team led by Taimur Samad, Operations Manager and Acting Country Director, said the World Bank is willing to support Yobe state government to actualize its reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery process to improve the lives of the people.
